Belonging to Secretaría General de Extensión of Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE), Departamento de Idiomas Modernos has provided since 1970, quality foreign language courses to all individuals - for the university community and society in general.
At present, knowledge of foreign languages is essential within and outside the University. The internationalization of society and of higher education is profoundly affecting the daily lives of students and citizens. Learning and speaking foreign languages definitely foster a culture of global openness and help students in their university studies by enriching their education and empowering their future job searches.
UNNE is aware of the need to complement, extend and update knowledge in a changing world so it ensures that the programmes of these university extension courses are accessible to university and community members by offering them affordable tuition fees and special discounted prices for the courses.
These foreign language courses are designed to promote international and intercultural understanding and to provide our students with a valuable tool which will help them to develop their potential academically and professionally.
They are taught in face-to-face format in two provinces in the northeast region of Argentina – Chaco and Corrientes, in 5 different cities and at off campus buildings.
Every academic year, around 3,500 students enrol on our foreign language courses.
UNNE’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages provides the opportunity to study 9 different languages:
common EU languages such as English, German ,French, Italian and Portuguese
less widespread EU languages, such as Russian and Czech
Guaraní and QOM (native aboriginal languages of Northeast Argentina)
General, specific and international exam preparation courses are offered.
English international exams such as Anglia, TOEFL ITP, TOEIC, and also Portuguese international exam CELPEBras are regularly administered at UNNE’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages premises.
The primary mission of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages is to educate, inspire and empower people through language, culture and community and help our students succeed in their professional, academic and personal goals.
We strive to achieve our mission by offering a dynamic and culturally diverse learning environment that provides high quality and effective foreign language courses and making the educational experience productive, enjoyable, memorable, inspiring, social, nurturing and fun.
Multilingualism and interculturality demanded by the current society and the need to come into contact with people from other countries and cultures who speak a different language, also offer us invaluable enrichment and new opportunities. We also believe that internationalization and interculturalization are processes with the same development phases for both people and organizations. Knowledge of a different language and culture develops from a tool to get by in a new social environment into, finally, an instrument for self-expression, offering people the chance to make a difference to others.
